The simplicity of a silhouette as starting point for a new design creates more pressure regarding the shape of the design... since the silhouette is only a 2D sheet where the 'magic' needs to happen.

although the Plates serie isn't a 2D object the main shape and the silhouette itself are. Therefor the design is well thought trough and, every line has its own motivation.

even though its appearance is minimalistic... the construction is, thanks to some clever engineering very robust.

The typical sway by a shape like this is reduced tot a minimum without adding heavy metal beams... instead the construction is enhanced by a clever metal lever-like construction... this together with the Iroko hardwood beams at the bottom make this design very durable. The Iroko beam simultaneously provide support for the feet, that makes a variety of seating positions possible.
